Some Love for The Tim

Hello, friends!  I have a pair of holiday cards to share with you today that celebrates a deep love of all things Tim Holtz.  I know many of you are right there with me!  Did you know that Core’dinations has  several collections designed by Tim Holtz?  I have been going through his Kraft Core “Shattered” Collection with great enthusiasm, so much so that I’ve just about used up my entire assortment of it.  The cards below use the “Shattered” Collection in conjunction with quite a few Sizzix dies that have also been designed by Tim Holtz.

VivianKehShatteredChristmasPair_AFor the Christmas Tree card with the background of festive boughs, I chose my colors based on the color wheel.  When the mojo is lagging, I will often turn to the color wheel for inspiration, and I highly recommend doing so when you’re having trouble getting started in your crafting session.  Since blues lie directly across from oranges, they just about always make a fantastic pairing, even when the tints are not what you would consider pure blues or oranges.  In this case, we have a soothing greyish blue and a burnt sienna which has a warm orange cast.  I think they set each other off nicely.

VivianKehShatteredBoughsThe boughs on this card were die cut in one pass using a strip of Shattered Core’dinations Cardstock and a Sizzix “Holly, Beaded & Snowflake Garland.”  The boughs were further embellished using a Viva Decor Pearl Pen.

VivianKehShatteredBoughs_AIn order to preserve the pretty background, I kept the focal image small – a sweet pair of stamped and easily fussy cut trees from a Jillibean Soup holiday stamp set.

VivianKehShatteredBoughs_BFor the Wreath card, I die-cut the cutest wreath from a Sizzix Mini Wreath Movers and Shapers Die Set ,studding the pretty wreath with little balls that were also created with liquid pearls.

VivianKehShatteredChristmasWreath_CFinally, I added some seam binding and just a few Tim Holtz Ideology clips for variety in texture.  Thanks so much for visiting with me here today, folks. Best of luck in your holiday papercrafting!

  1. Fantastic ideas here Vivian. I totally share that love for all things Tim and you are spot on with the colour wheel. Colour is always a starting point for me. I love your use of those Viva Decor pens – gotta invest… Thanks for sharing as ever, Jenny x

  2. Again your eyes got it right. Love the color matching. Perfect pairings. Love that wreath die. I used it last year to hang around the neck of one of Tim’s deer for my Christmas card. Yes, love Tim too!

  3. Nice pair of cards! The color combo is spot on. Good tip on starting with the color wheel. The embossing on the shattered core is stunning. And yes, I’m right there with you. Love all things Tim.

  4. Great cards Vivian. The liquid pearls are an excellent embellishment, I will be using that idea. I have the garland die, so now you have given me embellishment ideas. The garlands as a background adds extra dimension to the card. The pearl dots on the wreath, perfect, love that idea. I need the wreath die. The embossing adds elegance to the card, I have that one and I need to use it. Thank you for sharing today.
